No AI here – I promise

In past years blogging, I haven’t had to make a post like this. Unfortunately, with the current invasion of AI into all aspects of our lives I have no choice.

I am not a fan of generative AI and AI chatbots. While I do believe there may be some legitimate uses for the technology, I also believe the tech companies are pushing LLMs too hard and too fast and recklessly telling us to use it for all the things when it still fails at so many.

And that’s not even getting into the negative environmental impacts of the massive data centers needed to run AI models.

As a creator, I cannot and will not support something that steals the work of creators without any compensation or acknowledgement to them. You might think it’s really cool that you can visualize a scene in your head, describe it to ChatGPT and then see that scene right in front of you in mere minutes. The problem is the only reason ChatGPT can do that is because it’s trained on the work of thousands of real artists. People who studied and worked hard and spent their whole lives trying to perfect their craft. I feel AI devalues art and that’s an awful thing.

The same is true of writing. It seems these days that every time we go to type an email or post something to our social media or create a document in a word processor, we are asked if we’d like to use a helpful AI assistant to make our writing better. Again, that little robot can only do that because it was programmed to do so by people who STOLE THE WORK of writers around the globe. Writing well is a skill. The idea that with AI anyone can become an excellent writer is nauseating to me. It devalues the work of writers. People who have given their all to this craft.

So let me say this as simply and as clearly as I possibly can: It is my commitment and promise to you that I will NEVER post any AI written content or AI produced images on this blog. PERIOD. All content will be written by me (or credited to another writer where appropriate).

If you want to read stuff written by AI, there are plenty of places to do it.

This isn’t one of them. And that’s never gonna change.
